Quick summary: Heavy NE winds Friday and Saturday had us dockside, but lighter winds Sunday let us out for quick limits. Walleye are hitting on spoons and rattle tots in the western basin.
Conditions this week
Tough start to the week with sustained NE winds in the 20–25 mph range Friday and Saturday. Wave heights 4–6 ft on the western basin — not safe for charter fishing. We held off and let weather pass.
Sunday opened up. Winds dropped to 8–12 mph, waves to 1–2 ft, and the lake was fishable by mid-morning. Water temps in the western basin holding around 58–62°F.
What’s working
Walleye are in feeding mode. Two patterns producing consistently this week:
- Spoons — Jr Streaks and Stinger Stingrays at 2.0–2.2 mph. Best colors: purple/chrome, watermelon, and the classic gold/black.
- Rattle tots — Bandit Rattletraps in firetiger and chartreuse fired up the bigger fish in 25–30 ft of water.
Most boats getting limits in 3–4 hours when the wind cooperates. Fish are spread across the basin from Catawba to Kelleys Island shoreline.
Looking ahead
Forecast for the coming week is calmer — should give us 4–5 fishable days. Water temps will keep climbing, which will push the walleye spread out and start moving fish deeper. By next weekend we’ll likely be transitioning to crawler harnesses and Erie Dearies for the larger fish.
